Definitely LED if they’re good ones. Get the metal/slim style, these are robust and don’t have a lot to go wrong. The plastic ones can overheat and melt.
I was getting tired of pulling apart my tail lights and trim pieces to change my third brake bulb (2002 Highlander). I replaced the tail lights and third brake light with LED assemblies, and put LED 168 bulbs everywhere I could. Problem solved, they’re brighter too. Red bulb through a red assembly projects much better than a white/yellow bulb.
