Tail gate lock/unlock

Tail gate lock/unlock
Recent purchase of a very nice 2003 Rx300. Noticed the tailgate only locks/unlocks with the key, does not lock/unlock with the key fob like the doors. Is this the way the RX300 was designed or do i have a lock problem with the tailgate? Thanks, Mike

Welcome to clublexus. Raise the rear hatch door and pull out the bottom piece. [you may have to remove more pieces] There is a 12v motor that operates the lock. You can also verify the motor function by using the lock/unlock electronic button on the driver and front passenger door.
I would suggest visit Lexus on line parts dealers and look at the parts diagram on line to get an idea.
The only part that I have herd that fails is the plastic release lever which is connected to the manual trunk release.
