My 2000 has built-in side airbag on the left side of driver seat. There is a label saying airbag. I remember one time I had to take front passenger seat out. Just unplug all the connectors underneath. When putting back, plug back all connectors.
Turn off the vehicle and take the ignition key out.
Wait 5 mins.
Disconnect the battery.
Then take the driver seat out. Disconnect the connectors [air bag and seat belt reminder]
Do the repair.
Reconnect the connectors.
Secure the seat.
Connect battery.
Few things to remember ... do not test out the connectors with a tester [VOM]. Do not connect the battery with the air bag disconnected.
Caution; The air bag is in the seat so exercise due caution.
I think I wrote a DIY for the driver seat connector .. please check the DIY sticky.
That is correct, but if you know what not to do, then you should be OK. Disconnecting is safe, but then trying to probe it can result in deployment. If you think about it, when ever some is seated in the car the air bags can pop and if they were the old Takeda (sp?) can result in serious injuries.
But if you feel uncomfortable, take it to a mechanic.
