Default Leaking freon

Hi all, just bought a 99 rx300 and went to recharge the ac. It was blowing cold for about 20 mins after I noticed it leaking on the ground. It is coming out of this hose which looks to be coming from the back of car but has no continuation. What is this hose and where is it supposed to go to? Thx

So hard to tell from the picture ..but there is a A/C condensate line that drips water when the A/C is running. You can not see freon (or what ever the new refrigerant is) as it turns into gas. This is like the drip from the window A/C unit.

I am never in favor of adding the refrigerant without checking pressure on the low and the high side ... let a professional do it.

Is the fluid green? Is your coolant green instead of red or pink?

Could not tell for sure it is the condensate outlet. The heat exchanger is up there too and minute leak in the hot portion can let out coolant .. which in Toyota should have been pink [astutely pointed out by you] ... but some folks use the green kind in the radiator.

Diagnosing things over the net is hard, At times we have to gauge the level of understanding based on the description and I have erred many times. I this case, again I am suggesting that let a professional diagnose it. When it comes to A/C repair, right tools and training are a must. Reaching out for $5 boost can is so tempting, but the damage it can potentially cause, runs into $$$$ [almost the value of the aging RX].

OP ... Please excuse me as I am speculating on the level of your expertise.

I have checked the pressure prior to filling it up. The coolant is red, so I'm pretty sure it's the freon that is leaking. ( The freon gas is mixed with green oily substance). The hose does look like it is a condensation drip line but why would the refrigerant be leaking from there?

if you can feel the green substance and find it oily, its PAG oil from the compressor. I've never seen it come out of a condensate tube before but may be possible if it was overfilled at one point.

Refrigerant in atmosphere is gas and will leak without trace. Shops add colored oil [usually the color is visible with uv light and you dont see any trace with natural light]. The PAG oil I have used has been clear and Lexus service manual states 3 (going by memory) places to add measured volume of oil.

There may be green colored PAG oil and the leak is in the evap area. I hope that is not the case as the labor to repair will be high.
