Default Can I permanently remove/disconnect the mode server

Here in Houston the A/C runs 90% of the time. My mode servo is making a racket, I wonder if/how it is feasible to just unplug it or remove it entirely so that all airflow will come out of top vents.

its feasible to unplug it and just manually move the arms to the setting you want permanently....but it takes just as much effort to open the servo and adjust the metal collar on the motor shaft to fix the clicking. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...made-easy.html

Much simpler is to get out of the Auto Mode and use the **** to set to the vent position you like.

The rattling comes as the mode keeps on changing in the Auto mode.

You can disconnect the power/plug but keep in mind, you will get into steamy and most days where you may want to run the defroster to clear condensation on the inside of the windshield.

My mode control only makes noise when I change to the top-only vent setting, my preferred setting when the A/C is on. This setting requires the most force from the motor to reach. The motor would chatter at that setting as it couldn't move fully to the position. I pushed on the mode servo arm so it fully reached that setting and then unplugged the mode servo.

I also tried swapping the mode servo motor with the recirc servo motor, thinking the recirc motor might be in better shape, but that only worked for a while before the noise returned. I don't remember the worm gear being loose in the mode servo and I was aware of that as a possible cause.

Well, mine made the noise in manual mode also. Changing the servo was the only solution in my case.

Was the noise you experienced only happened on a start of a warm day? That would be the servo trying to get to the set position and then quit.

The constant rattle is when servo keeps changing the vent position in Auto mode.

Makes the nose all the time. Recently it has started buzzing upon startup, then goes back to the click click click. I do think I obtained some relief by running the heater on high and then dropping back to AC, but it went back to the old tricks.

Why would you not just spend the $70 or so and replace it and forget about it for another 10-15 years...? It took ours 13 years to fail. It's not a hard job to replace it.

I'm not going off topic. Majority of the posts are aiming you towards just replacing it. So I'm wondering what's holding you up from doing the proper repair? Half-a** repairs won't get you far in terms of longevity.

I am really enjoying my zero cost repair. Before I found this forum I thought no way I can find the root cause and fix it myself. Now if it ever goes bad again, I can spend 30 minutes max to repair it.

I don't see where that's any of your business, bub.

If there are suggestions that help OP and even opinions and alternatives, we should behave like adults and just because we are sitting behind a computer and maybe having a bad day, lets not make it a public brawl.
Maybe I am having a bad day ..

I think this thread is not going anywhere and should be locked away.
