Parts counter at my local dealer gave it to me no problem. I just needed to show them the registration and they looked up the VIN.

Try another dealer.

Aggravating indeed, but at the same time one should be happy that Lexus wants to protect the owners.

Once you provide a proof of ownership, they will help and eagerly if you purchase parts from them.

I agree with Salim and maxSteel. I had no trouble getting the key code from my friendly dealer. Go in there with the title and registration in your hand if they don't know you well. Good luck!

Try a local locksmith? All you need to show them is your VIN and registration. Getting a key cut from them in many cases is cheaper than the dealer.

I can attest to this, just did this on a Toyota Solara that I purchased Saturday. Locksmith can do it all. Toyota for a $30 lookup fee gave me the key code with proof of ownership, and unfortunately in this state, paperwork. They cut the keys but programming them would have cost $300 so my locksmith did it for $75. I had no master keys, just a valet key. otherwise I would have programmed myself with a Techstream. But that would require a seed code when you have no masters keys. interesting learning. By the way the locksmith did it all in under 4 minutes.

After a certain year production vehicles had an option to register without master key. For 99 RX, you still need a master or replace the ecu and get a new master. Members need to verify this with the dealership.

I've used 1010 keys on Ebay twice. Worked great. You email them a picture of your key and they can cut a new key from the picture.

Give Lexus of USA a call and ask them to intervene. Proof of ownership is the only thing that any one should demand to see.

Funny how Toyota dealership gave me key code, however they did charge me $30 to get it from the vin, and cut my two new keys for the Solara that I just bought (no master keys and no key code). But now I have it.
