Mirror Switch / Security Panel Illumination?
I acquired a 2000 Lexus RX300 from my sister a few years ago. Can anyone tell me if the mirror switch and security panel is suppose to illuminate when I turn on the headlights? I noticed that on my vehicle, they don't glow / light up whenever I switch on the headlights.
If they're supposed to light up, is there a bulb I need to replace or do I need to replace the entire switch and security panel? I know the security panel flashes a red LED whenever I lock the doors which is normal. Just don't know if this panel or the mirror switch is suppose to glow while the headlights are on. I appreciate any help on this.

I know for sure the security panel only has one light, which is the red led you mentioned. I don't think the mirror control switches are supposed to light up, but I can't remember for certain (yeah even after nearly 10 years with the car lol). I will try to remember to take a look today, and get back to you.
Hi,
I just checked on my car, and found that the mirror switch should be lit, but it is not.
I dissasemble the unit, and there is a bulb.

Here is the culprit.

I tested the bulb, and it was working. Then I started to look for another problem, and found it. For my surprise, the connector was missing 2 of the pins (the 2 missing in the middle) for the bulb, and the cabling as well.

I went to the car breaker and got one connector from the central console of Yaris. Took the pins out, and put them in the connector.

And here is the connection. The ground is connected to the ground of the mirror switch, the "+" is taken from the light bulb from the leveling switch.

And now I have the switch lit up.
Hope this will be helpful.

Sorry for the incredibly late reply, but Rosen71 is correct, the mirror controls do not light up, I verified last night. Interesting that T/L left the bulb there and wasted money on that, but did not decide it was worthwhile to actually run wires for them. Also, kind of silly that a Toyota Yaris had the cables, but not the RX300. Although in Toyota's defense, the Yaris came out some 6/7 years after the RX was released, let alone designed.
EDIT: I think I misread Ronen71's post, did the Yaris have lit up mirror controls or did you just take a random wire with same pin size to use? haha.

With my previous cars-Ford, Opel, and the last 15 yrs only Mercedes, I have done a lot of DYI, and found that all the cabling is available, just the unit itself was missing. E.g. on my first Ford there was no central locking, but the cables were there. I got the motors, and just but them in.
On Lexus, the cables an the connectors for the units that are not factory-fitted, are missing.
But as hyperwish said, it is silly to put the bulb itself, but not to run a 1/2 m of wire and 2 pins.
