Towing Quads with their RX??
Me and a friend are buying quads next week and i was wondering if its sane to have them trailered on the back of my RX? I always see the Huge SUV's with them and was wondering can a RX handle not one but two??
Also know of any good trailer companies that make em'?
Lata,

Lata,
If you are concerned about the weight, I recently towed 2 motorcycles in an enclosed 6x10 trailer from Tampa, FL to Deals Gap, NC. I would estimate the weight at about 2300-2500 lbs. The RX did just fine. Fuel economy sucked as I was constantly travelling around 80mph.(I know, I know)
If you are going to do alot of towing, then an aftermarket tranny cooler would be a good addition if you don't have the factory tow package.

Well i guess it would do just fine considering i only will have to travel about 30-40 mins to go riding.....Thanks
Now how exactly do i attach the trailer.. Yiou said something about a factory tow package and i think i dont have it so what exactly is it and where would i get one besides from my dealer?
How does it look with no trailer attached?
Thanks again

The factory tow package is the tow hitch and a transmission cooler. I didn't have the factory tow package on mine so I had to buy an aftermarket hitch. I went with Hidden Hitch although there are other good brands out there as well. I think I paid $100 for the hitch plus shipping. Also had to purchase a 4-wire adapter that goes from the trailer to the harness under the vehicle. That was only $15.
Keep in mind that depending on what year your RX is, you may need to purchase a separate part that neither Lexus or the hitch manufacturer mentions. It is a wiring isolator that plugs in under the cargo area near the rear seat on the left hand side. Without this, you will not get the trailer lights to work. I had to pay an extra $90 for this from a Lexus dealer. Shop around. I got quotes as high as $214 for the same part. And no, one from a Toyota Highlander will not work. Already tried to go that route as well.
As far as the transmission cooler goes, you can get an aftermarket one installed at a tranny shop or places like U-Haul. You could even do it yourself if you are so inclined. But if you are only towing infrequently over short distances, I probably would not worry about it.
Good luck.
