Default 2000 RX300 Temperature Control Not Working

Just bought my wife this SUV and now the temperature control **** will not adjust the temperature. It stays stuck on 75 degrees. Worked fine when we test drove it, but now you can rotate it either way and it does not adjust the on screen temp. This is the first Lexus I have owned and bought if for her and our new baby because I wanted something safe and reliable????

Has anyone ever run into this issue and what was done to fix it. Temps are getting colder and would like to get it fixed myself if I can without taking to the shop/dealer.

Appreciate any ideas!

Thanks...

try disconnecting the battery for about 10+ minutes.

You will loose all settings.

So how much out warranty are you miles/years ... I have a '99 and over 180k miles ,,, well beyond what Lexus warrantied it for. Keep in mind it is a machine and things wear out and maintenance makes a huge difference.

Default Temp control

thanks for the reply.

Had the neg. battery cable off for about 2hrs yesterday. Still same problem. Temp stuck at 75 and unable to adjust with control ****.

I have looked all over the internet trying to find a fix. It appears this is not a very common issue. Hoping someone on here has seen this issue and can point me in the right direction.

Mileage is 155k. Vehicle has been well maintained, kinda why I bought it. I know its 12 yrs old, but my wife really likes it, just thought I might be able to fix myself and avoid the dealer/shop for now.

Temp blend door actuator is usually the cause for this.

Took to dealer and they said the temperature control head is bad. Mechanic says buy a used one, dealer wants $850 bucks. Has anyone ever replaced these. Radio works and don't want to replace it, plus don't want to deal with theft deterrent system. I would like to buy one from the wrecking yard and try to just replace the temp. control head. Any thoughts.

"temperature control head"? what is that.
stereo head unit would be the radio ... note the RX display is a separate attachment.

I think the radio units can be swapped. Please confirm before you run with my statement.

The air conditioning section on control assembly removal says:

1) remove center lower finish panel
2) remove integration control panel (4 bolts, pull out the panel, disconnect connector)
3) remove multi display (3 screws and the display)
4) remove radio (4 screws and the radio)
5) remove panel ECU (6 screws and the ECU)
6) Heater control (remove the 15 screws and the heater control)
7) Remove *****
8) Remove plate

I've never seen it and It's hard to picture. I think once you complete 1+2 it may become more apparent

Sorry for reviving a super old thread, but I am experiencing the same issue with my 2001 RX300. How did you end up fixing it??

Figured it out! Bought a used temperature controller (basically the faceplate surrounding the monitor and radio/climate controls) for $65 on eBay and swapped over the control board to my original part. Now I have full control of the temperature once again!
