Default Security System Issue 2001 RX300

Need help diagnosing problem: when I shut off car and take the key out the security system arms itself-UNLESS I open the door locks with the fob (at that point the door button will not open the locks) before opening the door-the alarm goes off 10 seconds after the door is opened. I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the system a few times-but the problm persists- the locks all open and close with the fob- any ideas much appreciated.

Is this a new problem or it has existed from before?

How many smart keys do you have 2master + 1 valet ?

I dont remember the process but it involves inserting and pulling out all the keys one after another to make the security system reset. You need to insert the master key first [there may be a sequence in which you keep the driver door open etc]

It's been this way for a while-finally reached the point where it's driving me crazy-do you know where I can get the exact sequence of what you are suggesting?

I've had this "problem" before. I have to reset my security system every time I disconnect my battery.

The procedure I use is:
Insert master key (non-remote master) into driver's side door.
Remove key.
Insert master remote key into driver's side door.
Remove key.
Insert master key (non-remote master) into ignition.
Remove key.
Insert master remote key into ignition.
Remove key.

Thanks! I'll try that tonight after work. Should the driver's door be locked or unlocked when I put the keys in and out or does it make no difference?

Worth linking this to DIY [if it is not there]

You're welcome. It doesn't matter if it is locked or unlocked.

Hypervish-Amazing! Worked like a charm-thanks a million for the fix. I had called 3 dealerships in the Bay Area to see if they had any suggestions and no one said anything about this method of resetting the security system. I'm curious how did you find out about it?

Again-thanks for the rescue-very much appreciated!!!

You're welcome! I'm glad to hear it worked!

My uncle actually taught me this trick. He's a mechanic at his own independent shop that he owns. Not sure how he learned it, but I was actually surprised that he knew it. LOL

It's weird how some RX's require having to do this security system reset, while other's don't have to. I have to do it anytime I disconnect the battery (which isn't often).

I actually created a thread about this sometime ago asking if anyone knew the reset procedure, but no one did. Lucky for me, my uncle knew about it.
