Help! Key not working...
I have a 2001 RX 300....Just yesterday my power key stoped working....I can open the door the door with the key button but I can not close it....Must do it manually...
Changed the battery last night and still no luck!....I only have one master key as I bought the car used...
Thoughts?
Do I have to buy a new key module from Lexus?
Any other options?
Potential cost?
Thanks in advance....

So the unlock button works still, correct?
Try keeping the key open, and pressing the lock button contact itself. Meaning without the rubber piece covering the 3 buttons. Does it work if you do it this way?
I had to add a tiny piece of plastic between the lock button contact and the rubber piece, for the lock button to work.

Yep, sounds like you need a new key.
Look on sewell's website, we get a discount through Club Lexus. With the CL Discount it's $167.59, without the discount it's $196. This price includes getting the key cut out using the car's VIN number.

Does the little red LED light up when you push the button to lock? I fixed one that wasn't working and it had simply broken a solder contact from pushing too hard on the button. Used a SMALL hobby type soldering gun to solder it and all was well. What Hypervish said is true. People push too hard on the button and in time the contact is kind of recessed by that. I also had to put a little something behind it to restore to "new push condition" after it was soldered. If the LED is lighting it should be sending the signal. If not, look for something broken that can be repaired.

When you sign up on Sewell's website, they will have a field for "Forum Membership Information", just select ClubLexus and then enter your username. https://secure.sewellparts.com/account/index.html
Yes, you will have to program the key yourself. I believe Sewell will provide you with instructions, but if they don't they are up here somewhere, a quick search should reveal them. lol

I'm having the same problem...
I opened up the key fob electronics and discovered that the tactile switch (for the lock button), was loose and would need to be re-soldered. This is all in the hopes of not having to spend the money on an overpriced replacement key.
I am not sure if I can re-attach the existing button or if I would need to buy a replacement. I think the part# I need is: EVQPLMA15, pictured in the stock image attached to this post.

Can I solder this button back on where there are no feet to this tactile switch? I am told this switch has J-Bent terminals and that it requires reflow solder.
Also, as long as the terminals are making contact, does it matter if the button is rotated or not?
Thanks for your help!

Welcome to CL.
Did you mean 'rotated'?
Please check with a electronics tech in your area. Surface mount soldering at times requires special setup/tools. Tech would also determine if the switch can be rotated or not.
