Default DIY: Clean Remote Key Contacts

Hey, everyone. This is a short, and simple DIY on cleaning the contacts on the keys for the remote. Over time dust builds up in the contacts, and sometimes you need to press extremely hard to get the key to work. Or, the key won't work at all. I decided to clean my contacts after having to press the lock button too hard, to make the red led on the remote light up. (btw: my remote still isn't working, I plan on disconnecting the car battery, and reconnecting it later today).

To get started, you need to remove the screw on the remote key. I used a knife, because the philips screw on my key is stripped.

Once you remove the key, you can remove the battery.

Now, remove the this part from the enclosure.

Now pry apart the rubber part (the keys) from the plastic. This will reveal the contacts.

Here you will use rubbing alcohol and some cotton to clean the contacts.

Then, just go ahead and put it all back together. Overall, it's an extremely simple job. Takes less than 5 minutes, and can save you from buying another key because your current one doesn't respond when you press the buttons.

Cool. So was this what your problem was with the car not responding?

Nope. It still doesn't work, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to clean the internals.
