Nav DVD updates are now free, as long as the vehicle is under warranty.

Thanks to anothr member of CL, I was able to receive the updated 2002 navigation DVDs that came out this month
for free.

Unfortunately, the update is not as perfect as I had hoped for...

How do I get the Navigation DVD update when I was told by my dealer that it'll be about $500. Then I read somewhere on the thread that one Club Lexus member got his for $150. Now it's free under warranty?

I have a 2001 VaporBlue with Navigation with V.2000 and I wanted to upgrade to v.2001.

How do I go about getting the free update from Lexus? Do I tell the parts department to look at Club Lexus and say that other dealers are giving it under warranty?

My '01 RX300 came with 2000 ver. 1. The updated DVD that
I have now is 2002 ver 1. (my dealer received it from Lexus
a couple of weeks ago)

It will depend on your dealer. Some dealers are very
creative.(if you know what I mean... wink wink)
In my case, I politely pointed out at least a dozen verified
mistakes(defects) on the maps. For example, there are several
freeways in my area that have HOV restrictions between 6-9AM
only. The map will refuse to go into those freeways at any time.
These mistakes were corrected in the 2002 DVD.

If they're unwilling to do this, you should at least try
to contact Lexus Service Center to get the half-off discount.
(the DVD is now listed at $250, so half-off is $125)

Just received free NAV update. The version is listed as 2.1. Have the dealer contact their regional rep. They should be able to take care of it.

I'll try your example too (wink wink). For reals, I did go to my auntie's house that was newly developed and on the screen, I was driving in the middle of the ocean and flat land with no streets. I'll bring it in to Lexus and have them check it out. Maybe they'll swap DVD's for me too.

There are still quite a few mistakes in the 2002 ver. 1 Nav DVD's maps.
However, it is a lot better than the 2000 ver. 1 that came with
my RX300...

They have also added a lot of new POIs. There's a new
McDonald's near me that just opened in late March 2002 and it
is also on the map!
