Nope!
This has been a sore subject for years. Lexus licenses the data from a couple of other companies, and they're not willing to do free updates. At least now Lexus seems to be on a regular update cycle, with new discs coming out every September.

Because of the cost of the disc (list is well over $200), navi buyers need to make sure the car has the latest disc installed when they buy the car. If it doesn't, you need to complain and get an upgrade, because that's the only way you'll get it free.

FWIW, Honda/Acura works the same way, with updates in September. Honda's lists for $185.

If your RX is an 06, it should have the latest nav disc.

is there a way to check the version besides looking at the actual disc?

where is the nav unit located?

On the GX, you would press the info button and then on the screen in the upper right corner, press the Map DVD button and that will give you the DVD version. The latest for the 06 GX is Ver. 05. 1.

The same format should work on the RX.

I know the moderators frown on this discussion topic, so I'll keep it short. I've never tried it, for fear of messing up the system. I've read that if you play around with a Honda/Acura system, you could get it stuck in a state where you'll have to take it back to the dealer to fix. The disc is a double-sided DVD, so until about a year ago that was a deterrent in and of itself. Honestly, I don't think it's worth trying to make "backup" copies... I don't need nav updates that bad, and the updates aren't that significant anyway.

It's not so much that we frown on the topic, but that any discussion of burning "backup copies" of your NAV DVD always leads to someone offering to sell you a copy of theirs . . . just as a "backup", you understand - of course no one would actively promote violation of copyright law . . .(AHEM!) . . . and the legal jeopardy that follows.

True, we have had incidents of "entrepreneurs" using CL for their nefarious little moneymaking schemes. Watch how quickly the member (or members) is banned. CL is a community of Lexus owners and/or enthusiasts, not a lead service for software pirates or a marketplace for spammers. That is of course unless YOU would like to pay the fines and judgments. 'Nuff said.
