My wife calls me up today to let me know the drivers side window is at the bottom of the door and won't go up. After opening up the door panel I found that the window has come off it's guide rail. Specifically, the window separated from the little white brackets that are SUPPOSED to be molded to the window. Unknowingly I called up Lexus to get these little white plastic pieces and found......they and the window are one.....and to top it off.....a new window is $460.00. So if I follow their lead I end disposing of a perfectly good window, paying $460 for a new, all because of two plastic pieces worth maybe $5-$10.
So...here is my question. Has anyone ever figured a way to reattach these plastic pieces (wish I knew the proper name)? Any suggestions on the best type of adhesive to use.
this happened on my passanger side, i had a body shop fix the broken connector- they told me if it couldnt be fixed they could get me the whole thing from a junker for 200 but i paid around 100 for just the fix which basically they just used really heavy duty expoxy i believe. after that i never had any issues with it. but in all honesty if your planning to keep it a long time the junk yard/car parts.com might be a better route since youll have a solid peice...try to get a 2003 window as it will be the least age.
I guess my only concern with buying used is that I am dealing with a piece of glass that has been...used. The strength of the brackets have obviously been worn down to some degree with a used piece. Would it be crazy to have someone carefully drill two holes in the lower glass, use a rubber grommet/washer and bolt it to the plastic pieces.

Shark ... the only thing you can do is glue on top. The glass will shatter into millions of pieces if you try to drill it. Remember it is tempered glass.
Good point Salim, I head not thought about that possibility. All my previous cars are much older. Anyone have a suggestion as to a really good industrial adhesive. I plan to make some calls tomorrow. I'm just trying to think what type of businesses/industries make use of strong adhesives.
I'm just worried about the potential for it to break off again. Among other things that can happen with glues. I think that you should research some adhesives that are specially made to bond other things to glass
A few days ago I was calling around trying to think of an industry that would have a strong adhesive that could do the job. During one of the calls a guy suggested I speak a glass shop....(duh!!!). Called up a glass shop and they had the correct epoxy type glue. They actually informed me that occasionally the factory sends over glass with the brackets in the wrong place and they have to remove and reattach one or two of them so that they'll fit the correct alignment of the holes. Thanks everyone for the ideas. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone else who doesn't want to shell out $400+ dollars to repair a window.
