Unhappy Locking malfuction

Hi. After opening my car with my remote, a few seconds later it automatically locks itself. It's a 1999 RX300. I have a remote key which I used to open doors. Any answers?

Thank you very much! (this is my first post)

The normal operation is that if you use the remote to unlock and do not operate the door handle to open the door, the vehicle will lock up. You said in few seconds. I have not measured the time, but I think it is like 1/2 minute. The amount of delay may be adjusted by CBEST (for RX300 dealer can program it).

Tell us if this is a new discovery or your vehicle used to behave differently.

I think he might also be referring to the CBEST option where the doors lock when you shift into gear. The other locking option (if a door is not opened) is more like minutes and not seconds. These can be changed at the dealer. From what I read here, some dealers change the CBEST settings for free, and others seem to charge.

You did not answer the question(s) ... How long does it take to auto lock (less tahn 5 seconds?)
Is it a recent change or the auto lock always worked like this for you?

It happens when I unlock the doors with my remote and actually open a door or two and then whether the doors are open or closed and I am still outside the vehicle it automatically locks. It can be after 10 seconds or 30 . Sometimes it does not malfunction. Very unpredictable!!

Then it is abnormal. Try removing battery for about 20mins.
Examine the key remote for lint in the key fob buttons.
Make sure other remote is not near.

Let us know what you find out.
