I too had this issue but with 1 caveat. When the car is running or not, I open the door, the dash and the dome light does not turn on. But the door light turns on. I've already replaced the door latch and that didn't fix it. On some occasions when I'm really frustrated, I slam the lock/window switch assembly on the door and that will turn on the dome and dash light. Sometimes when you lock and unlock the car doors with the door open, the dome & dash light will turn on but not alwys.

I've about to give up but my next step will be to trace the entire wiring harness for the door latch and look for any exposed copper lines.

If you have any better ideas, I'm open to them.

 

The wires to the door switches gets flexed every time the door is opened and closed. This makes the wires rub against each other and the body (including the door). Search for a compromised insulation.
