I will probably do another pan drop and fluid change at 100,000 miles.
I noticed a marked difference in the transmission shift characteristics after the initial service (much more positive and smoother).
I am treating my transmission very gently in an effort to help prevent any future potential problems.
what happens if you dont drop the pan?

You "could" have a larger build up of metal fragments when you finally do drop the pan. If the magnets are totally covered in metal, where does the rest of the metal go ? I think you know the answer.

The tech at Lexus told me that all they do is just a drain and fill and don't drop the pan.

So all I did was drain and fill and did the trans cooler line as well to get most of the old ATF out. There wasn't any metal shavings on either drain bolt. I will def drop the pan the next time I change the oil about 3 months or so.

Mine is a 99 2WD with 145K on it. Had drain & fill done when engine was replaced a few years ago. No problems yet, except a small leak that leaves a few drops on the garage floor. I just make sure that I keep a bottle of fluid in the car and check it every couple of weeks.
