dead transmission! Highlander trans different

Default dead trans! Installed Highlander trans for less $$$

My transmission kicked the bucket at 92k miles. Is there any difference in the 2001-2003 Toyota Highlander trannys vs. the Lexus trans. of the same years? 2001 AWD Lexus Rx300

Should be the same system right? AT AWD 3.0 6 Cyl (1MZFE eng) same specs?

Price difference and availability is huge. Should I be able to order one and have no issues getting it installed??

Just make sure it is a U140F tranny, that is what you need for AWD.

Just wanted to let everyone know that it works without any problems. I bought a Highlander AWD transmission with only 22K miles on it for 1,200$ delivered to Texas from North Carolina. Had a shop yank the old one and put this one in. She drives like a champ now with no problems after 1,000 miles of driving.

Cheaper then a re-build and hopefully they got rid of the problems on the 02 trannys.

WOW! Go figure - the "Toyota" transmissions are less than half the price of the "Lexus" transmissions!

Yes, you have to make sure what kind of RX 300 AWD or FW?
If it is AWD you need U140F and FW only U140 transmisson.

That is exactly what I did. 99 RX300 Awd installed a tranny out of a 2002 Toyota highlander Awd. I looked everywhere for a used rx300 trans and only found units with 70-90K miles on them for 2,800$ and up. So they would have had to be rebuilt on top of that price.

Started looking into Highlanders as I knew most of the parts intechanged........for some reason the trans didn't cross reference but had the same part numbers. Junkyard even said they didn't cross reference so they were scared it wouldn't work. After some research and verification I decided they were the same and ordered it. 1,200$ delivered.

Changed out fluids and seals. Slapped it in and haven't had a single problem since. I'm over 1,200 miles now. No need for a rebuild it only had 22k miles so it was barely broken in and it came out cheaper. Win win. Plus they're a lot easier to locate.

still chugging along strong with over 3,000 miles and a lot of off-road driving (very deep loose sand towing a jet ski). Absolutely no problems....no leaks. I actually get to places on the beach that some of the big 4X4's have problems with =)
