Default Brake pad changing question!

Hello and this is a great forum.. I am changing the pads on by RX300 cause i hear alot of squeaking and i notice that the factory pads both have metal stabilizers but the new DURALAST Gold pads have only one and i just wanted to make sure that it was okay.. Also i did notice that when I reinstalled the caliper i tightened the bolt all the way down and i can feel a little movement on the caliper no matter how tight the bolt is?? Thanks for any help guys..

Do you have a picture of these pads or a link to them?

Don't understand. You removed the caliper to replace the pads? I replaced my pads and I only removed the bottom bolt and "flippped" the caliper up. Pushed in pistons and then replaced pads and slid the caliper back down and tightened the bolt.

Also, not sure what you mean by metal stabilizers...

I am sorry that i was not specific enough.. The pads fit perfectly i am referring to two metal clips that are on the factory pads.. The new ones have the metal clips only on two of them.. I noticed that on your picture that they are exactly what i have so i will leave them as they are cause they work great.. Thanks alot for all of your help..

If you're talking about the metal pad in the back, those are the shims and you can clean the factory ones and just reuse them. I would say most cheaper aftermarket do not come with replacement shims.... thus the lower cost.

Lexus114, I only lube the pin that I remove. The other pin if it feels free and rolls fine, I don't bother with it. Haven't had trouble thus far over my entire car experience of changing pads.

I ran my pads a few times in Mexico without shims and can't say that I noticed too much issue. The Akebonos I have bought on rockauto.com always come with the full kit.

whats the actual purpose of the shim anyway? doesnt seem to make much sense to me, if it sits snug against the pad and doesnt move then why not just increase the pad size to take up the save volume?

Well, there is the other issue, temperature, and as something expands and contracts, especially over time, the shim is there to help alleviate this.
