2000 rx here.
today i was not able to lock/unlock the rx using the key remote. it was working this morning and when i went to unlock it after shopping... nothing. at first i thought it was a dead remote battery but the car still wouldn't take the signal. i have a second master key with also a good battery but it did not work either.
fortunately, i am still able to lock/unlock the car using the key in the door lock.
i thought to try to look for a blown fuse but i couldn't find anything that was labeled "central locking" or similar.
help?

RX along with other Lexus lines have a remote disable/lockout feature. This is how it works:
If the receiver gets a transmitted signal and the encoding [signature matching the correct transmitter] DOES NOT MATCH, it shuts out the remote. Then you must use the key to lock/unlock the door and then the remote gets re-activated.
This is a safety feature, that prevents some one with a sweeping transmitter to unlock your vehicle.
In summary, if a fellow Lexus owner uses his/her remote key to unlock their RX near your RX, it will shut off the remote receiver of your RX.

^ Engaging the key in the door lock should have enabled the remote again.
I assume the red led on the key lights up [if not you need to replace the battery].
At times disconnecting the battery for 20 min or so clears gremlins [you will loose your seat and radio settings].
If that does not work, you may look into reprogramming the remote [I would not jump to this step without trying to clear the gremlins first]. Search will get you the steps to do this.
