Just finished the with all the mods for my car (except for exhaust manifold, got it from fedex today), pictures below. I notice the intake gets really hot even with the ram air tube, how can I make an effective heat shield?
I had to take the lower part of my ram air system out (since I don't use an air filter) and I even get that P0171 lean error even after that.
The only heat shields that I have experimented with were either cooking pots or pieces of plastic (PVC) (yeah, that's cheezy, but it's cheaper to experiment with that before you blow bigger $$$ making something more aesthetically pleasing that may or may not work).
And probably one of my favorites was this cooking pot one shown below.
With the way you have it set up, you could get someone to make a nice-looking cold air box. Weapon-R used to make them a long time ago for our RX300s, but they no longer exist.
I remember someone did a very nice heatshield on a setup like yours, see
i made a heat shield. i used adhesive insulation, a sheet a trimable metal sheet from home depot, and foil tape. i was using it on the weapon r dragon pipe and an autozone air filter that had a filtered top that i connected a hose leading to the bottom bumper creating a ram air affect like you did with the weapon r secret filter. after doing this i thought to myself that its not completly sealing the heat compared to the stock air box. so i ditched the shield, pipe, and filter. i put back the stock air box and added a hose to the air inlet on the bottom of the box to the open slot on the bumper. im fine with it and most likely not going to change it for awhile. im not as handy and creative as lexmex, but its fine for me now.
