Hey all,

For some background - I have a 99 BMW 528I and 99 RX300.

My RX300 is loaded with all the stuff from 99 - you know 4 wheel drive, heated seats, towing, etc.

I see all these lexus fans on this site and wanted to start with some comments.

RIDE: This truck rides GREAT, problem is I feel it is too great - doesnt even feel like you are driving it, also on the highway behind a truck or on a windy day it bounces all over due to wind and TOO SOFT shocks.

What I wanted to talk about mostly though was the maintenance costs.

I will compare them to my BMW (bought 1/99) the lexus was bought 5/99

For the LEXUS - total of 1350.00
1000 mile service - free
5000 mile service 140
10000 mile service 140
15000 mile service 340
20000 mile service 140
25000 mile service 140
30000 mile service 450

Now for the BMW
12000 mile service - free
24000 mile service - free

Not even taking into account the number of visits (there were 5 additional visits for rattles on the Lexus) - so that would be 12 visits for the lexus and 2 for the bmw. I dont see for the life of me why people love these. Am I missing something.

Just wanted to state my .02, but I dont see how LEXUS can compete with BMW/MB - Just the maint costs alone are a pain. Why doesnt lexus wake up and include the maintenance like a real luxury marquee.

#1 if they did that the cost would be more for the RX
#2 I can almost bet your service was alot better than at BMW, and as far as rattles you have been lucky if your bemer has not made alot of noise. The 2000 and 2001 are very quite cars, almost to quiet
#3 you should have gotten your 5k service free under warranty and free lofs up to 24k miles talk to your salesman

I own a 94 Mercedes Benz C280, and maintenance costs exceeded half the price of it's purchace price. One of my father's clients owns a BMW, Lexus, and a Mercedes.... and out of all of them, his Lexus has been the best one. I've worked with the local BMW group here, and their maintenance costs are way up there.... Lexus is by far best all around. THE luxury vehicle to own here is a Lexus. I just recently got a brand new RX300, and it's superb. No complaints about Lexus here. They even offer free car washes! Best quality service out of all luxury car dealers here. If you don't like Lexus, why not just sell your car and get another BMW then? Simple!

Default free maintanence

My dad baught his RX used and I think everything is free up to 100,000 miles. New cars it was up to 75,000 I believe. Well his battery just went dead, took it in and got a new one free. Gets free car washes every other week. A free brunch. Free license plate holder when his first got broken. 2 replaced molding pieces, one replaced headlight lens-free....geeze I said "free" a lot in that paragraph. I am very impressed with all the lengths they go to, to satisfy their customers. GREAT car too, maybe you got a lemon!

Lemon-one example is my mom's Pontiac Montana (minivan) that had to go into the show 13 times in it's first year. Second year-leaking manifold $600
