Yes, Lexus provides you with a 5k and 10k service, free of charge.

No problem.

If there is any question about it, have them refer to page 4 "Complimentary Services" in your Maintenance and Service Guide. It specifically calls out the 5k/6 month and 10k/12 month services as being provided at no charge to the owner.

• Road-test vehicle

Second Scheduled
Maintenance Service:
12 Months or 10,000 Miles

This complimentary service is performed at 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first. To obtain this service, contact your Lexus dealership. Your complimentary service will include these items:
• Replace engine oil with 0W-20 oil; replace oil filter
• Reset maintenance reminder light
• Replace air conditioner filter
• Rotate tires
• Visually inspect brake pads, calipers and rotors
• Inspect wiper blades
• Check installation of driver’s floor mat

If you do the majority of your driving under certain special operating conditions, additional items are included in this service. See the “12 Months or 10,000 Miles” chart on page 48.

Thank you everyone. Had the service completed last week. The a/c filter was not replaced. Must be optional.

The manual doesn't say optional - who exactly told you that? Or are you just assuming that? If it's dirty, it should be replaced.

It's checked as inspected on the Multipoint Inspection sheet and is not in the parts list.

Yeah, giving it some more thought, it really shouldn't be that dirty at 10k miles.

As I'm a very busy person, the 5k service sounds like a total waste of time even though it's free. My car is leased - is this service mandatory?

You are right, it is unlikely that an issue will be detected during the 5,000 mile inspection. However, the possibility exists. The potential ramification of not performing the service is if something happens later that could have been detected in the inspection, Lexus may not honor it under warranty.

It is a complete waste of time, but I would not advise skipping it on a leased vehicle.
