Default Cruise control troubleshooting

I have a problem with the cruise control - when I push the button the light goes on, however when I pull the lever down to set the cruising speed the light flashes, then goes off and nothing happens.

What would be the steps to troubleshoot it?

Thanks!

By any chance,is your check engine light on? If so,that would maybe explain why.If it is not on,then I am not sure what to do.Maybe someone else can help with this problem.

What speed are you trying to set the cruse on? There is a lower limit and I dont recall the number. Just try to set it at 55 mph or higher.

It's 25mph as per owner's man. I've tried it as high as 70mph.

You could try reseting your ecm, also check under the hood, and make sure electrical connections going to the cruise control unit are properly connected.Check for blown fuses too.@ the moment this is all that comes to mind.If I can think of anything else,I`ll post it.

Where is the cruise control ECU on RX300? Also, there are supposed to be 2 speed sensors - does anyone have a clue where those are located?

No I meant reset the vehicles ecm,the speed sensors are located under the air box.One is on top of trans.,the other is at a 45 degree angle.

Fixed it. The harness connected to the cruise control actuator was loose. YAY!!!!

I already called a local dealership to ask how much would the cruise control ECU be, where I was told it's $1,614 (yes, sixteen hundred), and they can't give me the part # because "they tell us not to". I was laughing so hard the guys in the next office came to see if I was ok.

I guess, next time I should check under the hood before checking the internets))

Thank you all!

(Just to keep track of my findings if someone does have the problem with the cruise control ECU).

Cruise control ECU part ##:
99,2000: 88240-48010
2001-2003: 88240-48020
Toyota dealers have it at $500, they are typically available on ebay at around $80-$100. No idea if 48010 will work for newer vehicles or vice versa.

Electro conductive repair grease into the cavities of the electric plug on the under hood module. Also check for moisture.
