Default Cruise Control "resume" not consistent

My father has a 04 RX330 and when I've driven it recently I have noticed that the "resume" feature (pushing the stalk upward) to resume the previously set speed works sometimes and doesn't sometimes. No ryhme or reason that I can figure out. It's happened at numerous speeds (hwy and city driving) and the cruise control will always work if "set" is pressed if the "resume" doesn't work. Just frustrating when you hit resume and expect the speed to maintain and it starts dropping off. And yes, the green cruise light is still illuminated when the problem occurs.

Any suggestions on some self diagnostics/fixes or is having the dealer investigate our only option?
Anyone else had something similar happen?
TIA

I use the cruise control a lot, ours doesn't act this way. Resume has always worked.

Does everything appear to be tight and right with the cruise control lever? Nothing loose or anything.

Yes - the stalk appears normal, not loose and normal amount of travel in all directions

Depends on the speed---cc will not resume if you have taken the down to a certain mph.

Now that you mentioned that, I can remember my cruise not resuming on occassion and it is always when I come to a stop or something. Once again, after all these years of life, I learned something new....

RJ - agree with your post, unfortunately the issue occurs when I have accelerated back to the approx cruise speed I had been at and lift the lever to resume that speed. I am not hitting resume immediately after leaving from a stop or under 25mph (speed that most cruise control systems cease to operate).

Go to radio shack and get some "electronic contact cleaner". Spray some where the stalk joins the stearing column while you are moving the stalk up and down.
