It seems like when anything out of the norm.(ie fuel prices)happen, you never know exactly what to believe.

By the end of this year .. my guess is between $5 to $6, maybe in few years you will see $8 .. giving us time to use the alternative fuel technology that is being tested now, so that we will rely less on gas.
New generations of vehicles are coming !!

I predict a rise to maybe $5/gal, dropping down rapidly after the Presidential election in the Fall. The oil producers want to lightly roast the golden goose but not kill it.

ha ha... are you joking? If gas were to hit $12 by end of year, kiss civilization good bye. The people of the US would uprise against the government and oceans would evaporate from the wrath of the US citizens. I doubt gas will even get to $5/gal, probably cap for regular at about $4.75, then fall down to about $4.

This administration, and next whoever it is, would attack another oil producing country and dig an oil well to China before letting prices rise to even $8/gal.

Every time prices start rising, the pondants for gloom and doom all come out of the wood works and predict the end of the world because they're not held liable for any predictions...

Exactly.

We get serious about alternative fuels/vehicles and just watch the price mysteriously drop.

Any pusher knows you can't kill your addict. You got to keep them hooked.
They start talking detox... it's time for some freebie's.

We should all just sell our cars and buy some Seagate's and use the extra cash for some extensive modifications.

I'm way ahead of you on this one.
We can solve the country's oil problem and at the same time provide gainful employment for half the nations workforce....
