Pinging
ive noticed over the past couple of months that my car pings once in awhile at full throttle in the higher rpms 4-6.5k. even when i dynoed my car a couple weeks ago it was pinging on the dyno. i wonder if thats why my #'s was kinda low. but ive always used 91 octane gas. so i tried the lucas octane booster/fuel treatment in a full tank of gas with 91 oct and i havent noticed any pinging what so ever. could it be that gas companies are cheating us on the gas ratings?
well i mean the car's 6 years old, it is possible that the injectors may have been gunked up a little or something, thus why the fuel treatment helped out. Octane boosters have been proven to only add between .5 and like 3 i think points on octane ratings, there's a thread on here about it i believe.
i didnt have any pinging but my injectors were getting a little noisy and my mileage wasnt so good, so once i put in the lucas fuel treatment it lubed up/quieted the injectors right down and i saw a 1-2mpg increase. Btw, this is using 89 octane gas with no octane booster, but i have a 2jz. If i was running a 1uz or 3uz (like you are) id probably spring for the 91.
I know in my father's ls430 he puts 89 octane in it and the idle isnt very stable, regardless of the VVTi. I had it for a week, put in 91 octane and it ran smooth as ever.
i dont know if i'd say its based upon the gas you're buying but i really think it was probably just gunked up injectors or something to that effect. Also check your spark plugs if you haven't done that recently, that could cause a problem.

When was the last time you changed your plugs? Are you sure it's pinging and not a misfire?
If you have old plugs that aren't firing well you will have a very light hesitation pop in and out in the upper rpm range (the area you are have issues). Octane booster has *almost* no effect on the octane rating, as stated before it only raises the rating less than half a point, it's really more of a gimmick.

maybe thats all it needed was the fuel treatment for the injectors. cause my mileage was an average 19.2-20.1mpg now its been reading 20.4-22.1 mpg. and i havent heard any noise that resembled pinging at all.
so your getting 20+ mpg on a 2002 gs430 WITH 22" rims? yeah thats not happening.....highly unlikely its possible...unless your talking about highway miles and with 22"s its still not likely! n yea i saw u sold the 1st 22's but u said u had ordered or were ordering some more so i assume this what your riding on?
