Window Control Problem
Hello everyone, I am a new member to this forum. However before becoming a member I have been reading numerous postings on this site. Many of you have given some very helpful advice in DIY projects to keep our RX's in great running condition.
I have only owned my 2001 RX300 for a month now and have already had my VSC/ Trac light come on. My husband cleared the dash light and we have been monitoring it for any further problems. Thankfully, so far nothing!
Yesterday a new problem arose. My drivers door window is acting like it has a mind of it's own. When I try to lower the window in small increments than try to raise again, instead of the window coming up when I release the switch it lowers instead. I then have to lower the window all the way down and then try to raise it again. Even then, it take several tries for the switch to engage and begin raising the window.
Has anyone had this problem before and if so, how did you fix it? I am hoping it is as simple as purchasing the part and changing it out ourselves.
Any help would very much appreciated! Thank you!

Welcome to CL, m'cher!
Good to see some of my adoptive people represent!
You may have a problem with the window binding in its frame - particularly in our recent cold weather. Those rubber seals around the window begin to harden over time, and I don't think they require replacement, or even replacement of motors or switches - there may be a cheaper solution, at least one I'd try first.
Lexus uses a "current monitor" system for reversing the windows' travel to avoid injury if it encounters a hand or arm in the way. To do this, if it takes, say 1 amp to raise the window, if it sees a window requiring 1.5 amps while lifting, it will assume it has encountered an obstacle and reverses the lift motor to disengage the obstacle. That works fine, particularly with kids and animals that may stick their head out the window while triggering the switch, but it produces some pretty interesting effects if the window is just binding in the frame.
If we ever get a warm day, open your windows (just as well do all of 'em at once) and treat each window track with Armorall or a similar rubber treatment to soften it. get it to as many areas as you can reach and after letting it soak for 20 minutes, wipe up as much as you can. Now, treat the window glass with Rain-X or a similar product and buff clean with a soft cloth. This will polish the glass, apply a coating to repel water, and if you can work it back into the areas on the front and rear tracks, help lubricate it. Follow the package directions for both of these products.
If this doesn't fix the problem, at least you will have sparkling clean windows - don't forget the windshield and tailgate. Rain-X has a product that has an anti-fog ingredient for interiors, but I've found it almost impossible to polish out and rather than deal with the smears for weeks, just leave the interior alone.
Hope it works for you - Laissez les bon temps roule'!

Thanks Lil4X!
I will try your technique and hope it works, however it does seem more like a problem with the control switch engaging correctly. I just hope it's fixable! I would hate to get caught in a sudden rainstorm with my slow to engage window down, if you know what I mean!
Oh, and nice to make your aquaintance as well! It's ALWAYS nice to meet someone who can relate to my Cajun French heritage!
Many thanks, again!
