Default Regarding keys...

Hey guys, sorry to ask this, for some of you, very lame question I guess...
But I bought my rx 300 just last night and they gave me two keys, where only one has a remote features.
Is there any way to upgrade the other key to remote? (my wife would like one too )
Any ideas?

Thanks, Joe.

The one with the remote features is the master key. I have two and two valet keys (non remote), one of which I keep with someone other than me.

With the master key, you can get a copy of that key made so that I had another one with a remote. I did that at Lexus over years ago, but I can't remember the cost offhand.

I can't be 100% sure as I hardly trust any of the things I see on ebay these days.

My 2002 RX300 came with two master keys, one valet key (no remote), and one credit card-sized key (also no remote). If you do a search in this forum, you'll find discussion on this topic. Some people have gotten cut keys from some of the mail-order Lexus dealer CL sponsors and other sources. You'll also find instructions for the electronic programming of the new key, using the existing master key.

It's important to have a second master key, because things get much more complicated when you've lost all the master keys (or even if the only one you have electronically breaks).

I bought that one from Ebay. It's uncut key which I am gonna get cut and he is sending an instructions to program it, so I'll do that as well and let you know how it went.
I heard, that if I lost that key with the remote in it I would have to have a sysem repalced or reflashed and it cost over $1,000 to do it and that is the last thing I want to go through
