Rotor remove / repair
My RX300 brakes wobble terribly when braking - did the rear rotors/pads and no improvement. NOW on to the fronts. Having read here AND removed rotors on all sorts of cars - removing fronts require simply removing the (wheel and) calipers? Last time I was in there replacing the front pads I the rotors seemed to be on there pretty good - does it have to be coaxed off with a mallet (corrosion)?
Thanks
Thanks
Once the calipers are off the front rotors almost fall off (sometimes). Other times they are stuck and require a little coaxing with a rubber mallet. There are also 2 8mm bolt holes in the rotor. Pick up 2 bolts at Home Depot and tighten them to push the rotor off.
It's metric, 8mm. The length doesn't matter as long as it's long enough to make contact. I would guess a 2" bolt would be plenty but if you want to check pop off a wheel and push something small in the hole to check depth.
I'm no expert on metric threads but I think coarse is the standard. Something else I should mention here is if you are using Toyota/Lexus pads on the front be sure and remove the wear indicator from the old and place it on the new. New front pads come without the wear indiactor. On the rear it is part of the pad frame.
Bolt is hex head so you get use a 8mm six point socket and a ratchet. Takes turn to tighten. Also this topic is already discussed recently, a quick search will yield this thread
