help: 2000 Transmission problem
This morning, tranny suddenly didnt engage when
put in reverse. Pressing on the gas a little longer,
it jerked and started to engage(move), but with clunking
noise. Put in forward, it engaged but move with clunking
noise. I didnt drive it.
It looks to me tranny is really having problem.
ATF still shows some red. Regularly maintained.
This is too soon for a tranny to go bad.
Will be towing it to a dealer tomorrow. Spoke with the
lexus service advisors on the phone, they said bring
in for a eval, before promising any goodwill assist. I will
try hard getting assist from Lexus.
How does the words on Lexus goodwill on the tranny repair/replacement like?
Any pointers would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
Keep in mind Lexus Base warranty is 60Kmiles.
If you had purchased an extended warranty for 100k miles, your odds of getting "good-wll" reapirs would be higher with the odo at 109k.
Keep us posted as to what actually broke [which component, or transfluid break-down].

If your in the same shoes, try the pitch....
I had to get the repairs done out of pocket first and then take on the fight.
Ask for the service log to specifically indicate the problem and be aware that the cost to properly diagnose may include dismantle of the trani (which can then be applied to the overhaul price as a credit).
Good luck,
your going to need it.
Here's a hint..... "thrust washer out of alignment"
