Default help: 2000 Transmission problem

00 AWD 109k mi.
This morning, tranny suddenly didnt engage when
put in reverse. Pressing on the gas a little longer,
it jerked and started to engage(move), but with clunking
noise. Put in forward, it engaged but move with clunking
noise. I didnt drive it.
It looks to me tranny is really having problem.
ATF still shows some red. Regularly maintained.
This is too soon for a tranny to go bad.

Will be towing it to a dealer tomorrow. Spoke with the
lexus service advisors on the phone, they said bring
in for a eval, before promising any goodwill assist. I will
try hard getting assist from Lexus.

How does the words on Lexus goodwill on the tranny repair/replacement like?
Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I got my tranny replaced twice and they were both done on good will. One at 51k and another at 75k. I dont know what the problem was. I know the mileage between these two are really close for a tranny to go bad. But they helped me save like 10k.

Keep us posted, but remember Lexus will soak you for around $4400 to fix it. A tranny shop will be $2 to $3k a lot cheaper. Get anything in writing. If you had it serviced there all the time tell them you expect them to pick up the tab and dont accept otherwise.. good luck

Sad ... another trans problem.

Keep in mind Lexus Base warranty is 60Kmiles.

If you had purchased an extended warranty for 100k miles, your odds of getting "good-wll" reapirs would be higher with the odo at 109k.

Keep us posted as to what actually broke [which component, or transfluid break-down].

I had success for 50% of the trani overhaul price at local Toyota Dealer due to loyalty to the brand and service history with the brand.

If your in the same shoes, try the pitch....

I had to get the repairs done out of pocket first and then take on the fight.

Ask for the service log to specifically indicate the problem and be aware that the cost to properly diagnose may include dismantle of the trani (which can then be applied to the overhaul price as a credit).

Good luck,
your going to need it.

Here's a hint..... "thrust washer out of alignment"

I would definetly ask around and find an independent. Though warranty issues arise there if you travel a lot from your area. Good experience from others is the best recommendation...
