It not surprising on the cost.. A GOOD paint job is very labor intensive. And your hoping they know how to put it back together correctly. Earl Scheib or private professional, still get what is paid for.

My uncle painted the lower body ala silversport for my RX and it cost close to $400 USD (I paid him full no family discount) but that is down here in Mexico.

One of those professional shops that has those dry booths and was considered the best in Mexico City quoted me back in 2003 about $2,000 USD to paint the entire car (black).

$5,000 is way too high...even in the U.S. regardless of material.

My uncle used a DuPont paint.

Maybe you ought to consider a vacation down to Mexico City from California. You could come out ahead

Or maybe Tijuana...the most expensive thing is actually the paint down here, but the cheaper labor helps you come out ahead.

i paid my buddy (who works at a body shop) to paint all the lower cladding on my car for about $800...he had to fix a lot of minor scuffs and one small dent behind the front passenger side fender and stuff...turned out pretty sweet. i know the shops was asking for a heck of a lot more when i priced it with them...is this a color change or are you keeping it same color? if so, $3k for the whole car including engine bay and door jams too ain't a bad deal

From my recollection black is the only one without clearcoat.
