Yes Mike, auto-level is standard . . . .
OEM Lexus HIDs are standard with auto leveling - required by the sharp cut-off of the beam as discussed here many times. As to whether they actually outperform the standard lights, that's another question. I'd say the spread of the beam right to left is superior, but the actual throw down the road is no better. Of course I'm concerned with function, not the "look".
BTW, please turn off the CAPS when posting, it makes your message difficult to read and is the equivalent of shouting. OK?
Thanx.

A few of HIDs distinctive "features". . .
To oncoming traffic HIDs appear to have a bluish cast compared to tungsten or quartz lights. The "discharge" produces a considerably higher color temperature light than the filament lamps and also appears to be more of a "point source" than a standard reflector - due to the projector lens. Occasionally on wavy pavement, you can see the self-leveling feature working slightly out of sync with the suspension, producing a flickering effect as the beam rises and falls in relation to your eye level. This is particularly evident on Bimmers with the sport suspension.
From the driver's seat the color effect is also obvious, producing a distinct bluish cast to the light. HIDs provide much better illumination into the oncoming lane due to their sharp cut-off. This is particularly true on the RX because they are mounted a few inches higher than in a sedan and are able to shoot down the road at a shallow angle. Physics and DOT regulation still limit the actual "throw" down the road.
The distinctive "start-up cycle" of the HID beams as they move from low, to high, to a midpoint position is reminiscent of the sweep of early "hidden headlight" 'vettes that turned on the lamps before they had quite rotated into position.

You will notice (quite simply) that the beams are very white - and very bright. As opposed to a more yellow tint presented by halogens - even the over-priced halogen replacements can't even get close to the color temp of HID. You could always just have someone else drive the car tword you at night to see it. If they're HID you'll know.

Would Nakamichi be written somewhere on the dash?
Thanks

My RX300's HID is pure white (a little blue for the first 5 seconds.) The halogens (high beams and fog lamps) are yellow. At least that's how they look on the pale white garage wall.
