Typically the error codes point to a system which is not functioning right and the tech is supposed to verify the diagnosis by checking if the solenoid is responding to the command or not. There can be an electrical problem [signal to the solenoid] or even a mechanical problem ... when the solenoid is activated does the fluid flow through the channel.
I think we are at the mercy of the mechanic and what we control is engaging a competent and "honest" [broader term] mechanic. One of the equalizer is going to the dealership, where they will charge you more but there will be no gender bias [at least this is what I hope].
My 2c ... Go to a reputable transmission shop and then take their advice.

The P0765 says the S4 solenoid could be stuck open or closed, but it also says the valve body could be blocked up or stuck. What did the shop say about it?
Why did you choose the shop?
Is it a transmission specialty shop?
Is it a chain transmission shop?
Did you discuss the diagnosis with anyone outside of the shop after getting the initial diagnosis?
Have you spoken with the shop about what is happening now?
Believe me, being a female may play a role, but I've been played a time or two when I was younger (several times if I think back long enough). I've learned to keep an eye out for trustworthy mechanics and shops. I stay away from chains shops when I can. Word of mouth has a lot of merit. AutoZone and places like that oftentimes know of reputable shops and/or individuals that work on cars. I use a Toyota dealer about 25 miles from my house and have built a good relationship with them over the years. They charge a premium, but I trust their work and advice. This is not to say that they are infallible. They make mistakes and have misdiagnosed an issue on one occasion, but so have I. Transmission issues are difficult in that you are often at the mercy of someone else. A quick fluid and filter change often does wonders, but anything past that often requires a professional.
