Default P0770 code and stutter

Hello all,

My girlfriend’s 2001 RX300 with 91k recently started to stutter really badly from 2-3 gear and sometimes from 1-2 gear. I took a bit of a closer look for her today, and I could hear a whirling noise, similar sound to a remote control car when it the electric motors are spinning. Ive hear various stuff from selenoid issues to complete Transmission failures with this code. Need some ideas from y’all; they’ll be much appreciated.

Took it into the dealership today and they are saying my Transmission Fluid Pump is bad, and that would mean a new or rebuilt transmission rather than replacing the Tran fluid pump. Iinterestingly enough, the P0770 code went off on its own before taking it into the dealership. Thoughts and suggestions will be much appreciated.

I just got the same code two days ago for my 2001 rx300 (automatic fwd). My car is currently at 143k miles. Did you end up replacing the transmission as they suggested?

I am afraid my rx300's transmission is failing and I am trying to weigh whether or not it would be worth it to replace the transmission or look into buying another car, though the car market is crazy right now and prices are extremely high for both new and used cars.

Welcome to ClubLexus.

The post is number of years old so I am not sure if you will get a reply that you seek.

I would suggest take the RX to a shop you trust. Dealer will cost you the most and will most likely replace transmission.

The price of vehicles is supply and demand. If you choose certain models, you can get good deals, but anything popular will be long wait and higher cost. If you want to stay with Lexus, just check the inventory.
