Default Some current pricing

I find it interesting to check CarMax every so often to see how many / how much our cars are going for. (Don't work for them)
I have to say I think this is the first time I feel like prices are going down a bit (but not much):

Used Lexus RC F for Sale (carmax.com)

And man if I was in the market, that 2016 Infrared with the carbon package and only 9k miles, just take my 56k lol.

Do you think the high price for gas makes the "want it" pool smaller?

I can sell mine for a profit of almost 5K! And, I have less mileage! Yay! But, I'm not sellin' lol

I’ve been on the market for one. I bought one on Carvana and had to return it. Took it to Lexus to do a pre-purchase inspection and it’s obvious that Carvana doesn’t do their 150 point inspection thoroughly. The day they picked it up from me they listed it back on their site (still there) without addressing the issues I assume.

I told myself I’m gonna wait for a Ultra Sonic Blue to pop up for the right price and mileage so I’ve been looking on Carmax, Vroom, and Carvana…but then I test drove a 2020 Supra too and now I’m debating which one to get.

Definitely wait for what you want, it makes a big difference.
I've tried so many times to like that Supra, but I just can't get into the looks. Some people seem to love it, it's a love it or hate it look for sure.
BMW mechanicals underneath vs. Toyota if reliability is a thing for you.

It's a love or hate for sure when it comes to the looks of the Supra. Funny you mention reliability because I was looking into a 2021 vs 2020 Supra due to the extra 50hp in the 2021 and apparently a lot of the 2021 are burning through oil, displaying add oil message, and requiring owners to take it back to Toyota to get it looked at/fixed.

I grew up a Toyota/Honda family and I've driven nothing but Toyota trucks and cars. My current 2nd gen Tacoma has 178k miles on it and I've owned it for 13 years. 99% of the times it's just my daughter and I and when I had that RCF for a week she loved it (mainly because of the heated seats).

Question about the RCF though: Why are there so many 2015s for sale compared to other years? Is there a known issue with the 2015 models?

EDIT: Oh, and I'm definitely waiting as long as I can..USB 2.0 or Nebula Gray..but I may have to pull the trigger if I have to wait any longer lol

Simple answer is, production numbers. Lexus produced a high number of RCFs in 2015 and then dropped significantly in 2016 and then has been gradually dropping every year since then. 2023 is going to be the last year for the RCF and will probably be very limited in numbers.

Good to know about the high number production in 2015 models. Thank you! With all the issues with the Supra I hope to be in a RCF soon

TBH, I don’t see a lot USB RCF in market. Most of them are black, silver and white. You may find some red, yellow colors. But for blue, I only saw once from a car dealer when I was shopping my RCF.

I think many of RCF owners shopped cross diff states. If you are able to fly to diff state and ship/drive it back to your place. It might be easier for you.

Like Rolla mentioned, it's simply due to production numbers. Here's the sales numbers for 2015 - 2020 (numbers are for the United States since that always seems to be a question)
2015 - 2,251
2016 - 1,195
2017 - 670
2018 - 352
2019 - 325
2020 - 293
2021 - 223

So playing the odds, roughly 68% of all available RCFs are going to be a 2015 or 2016 model.

Oh and +1 on casting a wide net for your search and certainly be open to shipping one from out of state. In 2019 I was down to a car in OK and in VA, and I'm in MD. Seems like it was fairly common thing for such a low production car. A bunch of members here and on the RCF Owners Facebook group sold their cars to Carvana due to aggressive offers. I can only assume now they'll be the highest priced, so may need to look at regular dealers for better deals, etc.

Wow, so there's not much RCF on the road here in the U.S. - crazy! I didn't know production was that low here. And I agree about expanding my search outside of Carvana/Vroom/CarMax. I'm just worried about the no return policy where I can't get it properly inspected to make sure there isn't any issues that I can't see right off the bat before committing to buy if it were to be out of state.

Sidenote about selling cars to Carvana..I come from the Toyota Tacoma world and a lot of folks sold their Tacoma due to the fact that they were getting crazy offers.

When I was looking last year, the state of CA had only 1 2021 RCF in the whole state. Fortunately, only 50 miles from me. Truthfully, I was not looking specifically for the RCF, but bought it immediately after test drive. V8 is great.

That's awesome and I'm glad you got one after test driving. I found a few in different states that's USB 2.0 color with clean titles per Carfax report but they have 2-3 owners already and it's got me asking myself "Why so many previous owners?" Getting a new work schedule here within the next month where I'll have 7 days off every other week so that'll make traveling a lot easier.

Carvana currently has 2 RCFs for mid to low 40s - shocking!

Most of the expensive especially performance cars are kept by people for a few years. People really want to mostly drive point A to B and most of the things RCF has, are overkill for the street such, as those big brakes, suspension etc. The maintenance cost for tires and brakes is according to their function. For example, brakes cost $3500 to replace etc. That is why, having 2 - 3 owners is very typical for such cars.

Regarding Carvana with 2 RCFs in mid-40s, you have to look at the mileage, option packages, maintenance history, accident history etc. to make a determination if they are a good deal. Based on what I see, usually the mid-40 RCFs have some "baggage" attached to it. Much rather spend more and get the right one. You would be much happier. That is what I did. I bought a 8000 miles one with a carbon/TVD package. Was much higher than what I budgeted for, but it was almost brand new. Very happy spending $5000 - $6000 more than what I initially set money aside for, but now the car is worth significantly more than it was when I purchased it.

You can see here on autotrader. Even the 2015-2016 with low mileage and really good condition/history are in the 50s.
