Dyno tuning and software learning experience
So i'll start this off by saying that the dyno session wasnt a 100% success because of the "normal" version of the vfTuner software is so feature limited. There is a pro version that my tuner will get when the next big update releases. Either way I did walk away with a tune to show potential. We had to use obd fusion to log because the normal version of the software doesnt even allow you to log knock feedback. This was definitely more of a learning experience to see how these cars react. If there are any maps you guys want to see from the stock ecu tune. let me know and i'll attempt to find it and post what it looks like here. We ended up running out of time playing around with everything, will return later on in the future to finish up the tune.
There are plenty of cool things in the software still. You can mess with the transmission and change the shift points, torque converter lock, how fast the shifts are. Here is an example of what it looks like based on accelerator angle.
So one thing that I thought about was leaving that secondary intake open. It has been discussed before in this forum plenty of times. So I asked my tuner lets see what happens when we unplug vacuum line. Well, that caused a check engine light. Then we found out that in the software there is actually a parameter you can change to open the intake. We decided to try opening it at 2000 rpm on his tune. Here are the results of requesting the flap to open earlier. These two dyno runs were done back to back within 5 minutes of each other. Flap closed (red) flap opened(yellow). These dynos were done on a KCLV of 17.8 under 4k rpm and 17 above 4k rpm in 5th gear. (was easily able to get kclv back up to 20s after driving around). Unfortunately we ran out of time and he had another customer waiting. That was the last run of the day and we did not get a chance to make improvements to the tune with the intake opening earlier.
Currently back on stock tune for the time being. When my tuner gets the Pro version I will return to build on top of the custom tune. He has a few ISF guys waiting in line too. Switching tunes only takes about 1 minute as well. Once again, if anyone wants to see any of the maps, I can try and find it and post a photo.
