Recently I installed RR Racing Air/Oil separator (oil catch can) the AOS is designed for the ISF, RCF owners require modification to the right side of the engine cover If you wish to continue using the engine cover.
Observing the design of the RCF engine cover the right hand side extends deeper than left and is directly below the hood vent water funnel. Underneath the cover is a heap of wiring harnesses, so engineers clearly wanted to keep dry when driving in wet weather. Heavy rain it would imagine.
My question:
“Has anyone who has modified the engine cover due to installing RR Racing AOS / or who does not use an engine cover had or notice any issues with water from the hood vent hitting the wiring harnesses?
Thought about this action myself since I have a nice Carbon Fiber "Vortex" Hood Vent, but I not going to take the chance. Hopefully you don't incur any long time issues due to water ingestion inside there!
Misconception of removing the hood vent cover is better heat drainage.
testing shows the vortex formed above with the cover provides optimum heat draw. Without it it isn’t as efficient.
The vortex addition above is the only point when the vent cover should be removed.
Do you happen to have the Vortex CF Scoop I mentioned above? I've gone back n forth on this w several other owners and still cant get the truth. To mount this piece, it sure appears to me that you have to remove the hood vent (external piece) and that the lip of said vent goes into the open lip section of the CF piece. Otherwise, it would just sit down on top of the hood using the double sided tape. I would think it needs that hood vent piece to pop up, then snap down w the Vortex atop of it? FYI - I overthink just about everything.
