Surprise 2020 Black Moldings On 1/4 Window
Anyone remember the RCF Track Edition spy photos? Along with masking the updates, did anyone see that the lower 1/4 glass molding was hidden with the tape? I have attached photos of what I discovered. Upon updating my chrome side moldings to 2020 black , the new 1/4 window includes this new update. Looks like an aerodynamic update. I’ve pointed this out on my RCF, an added bonus. No buyers remorse here. So I’m spending my kids inheritance, it’s going to a great cause!

I did notice that on yours but could not be sure what I was seeing. That's going the extra mile to keep air attached to the car lol!

2020 1/4 Window Lower Molding Re-Design

Actually it’s looks like it is designed to deflect air away from car.

If you’re an original owner and paid top dollar for your RCF like I did, the price is merely a drop in the bucket for what you have into it. It always bugged me from day one why the chrome on the side windows when the windshield and rear window have black moldings. I have not seen a 2020 RCF or RC so this project was done by the photos I had seen. Stop by a Lexus dealership that has some 2020’s in their inventory and see for yourself. Like I said, I’ve never seen them in real life so when I picked up my RCF at Seattle Lexus yesterday(they have no 2020’s yet), It was definitely a treat. Definitely satisfied and you will be too, I promise. Hope that you and everyone else thinking about doing it,

go ahead since I was the ginny pig for all of us RCF Enthusiasts!

I am very much like you in regard to being a stickler for detail. I have my chrome molding wrapped in satin black. They have held up very well over 3 years, but they did have a tiny bit of shrinkage after a few months. Upon very close inspection, I can see a hairline of the chrome underneath. It's so small that nobody but me would likely notice it. However, your experience makes me want to go this route now. That new little detail is interesting. Yes, it's overpriced, but so is the car, Lol. I'm wondering whether a glass shop would be cheaper on the labor - assuming the parts from Lexus are the same cost. Something for me to ponder...

That's also possible. Maybe air was getting trapped in the rear corner of that window causing high speed drag. I said attached because it looks like it is open at the front and rear. Either way it should be smoothing airflow. A very small Lexus like (relentless pursuit of perfection) addition in either event.

Removing / wrapping the chrome on the window moldings matte black was literally the first mod I did on the car...a few years back. That, and wrapping the grille surround with gloss black / matte black combination.

2020 Black Moldings Before and After
Here’s my last post on this thread. I just wanted to show before and after photos. Again, well worth the price for this definite update for 2015-19 RCF models. I wonder why Lexus left them off the 2019 Special Edition RCF?

After

Looks awesome!!! I noticed the darker trim on the Track edition when it came out, Looks like you actually went through with it first. So basically, you need to get the dealership to do the work BUT get the parts for as cheap as possible?

That before and after pic says it all. The chrome adds too much visual weight to the back quarter of the car. Looks bulbous or something. Looks worlds better without it. And now I'm just kicking myself at even thinking about this.....$$$
