I have a pretty bad clanking noise when turning or driving really slow. I'll try to get a better video tomorrow. The only thing that has changed is I took it to the dealer for an oil change and there inspection of the car. They said my front brake pads were at 2mm and the front rotors needed to be replaced. I took a look myself and they definitely do. Going to have that done by someone else next weekend. The noise started about a week after the dealer. Any thoughts on what to look for? 28k miles on car

The video does work, but I’m at a loss as to what that noise could be. It is hard to make out.

 

Bad bushinging on front or something didn’t get tightened down all the way, take it back to them

 

Thanks for the input. That metal clanking doesn't sound good. Hopefully they don't try to charge me a ridiculous amount. I'm out of warranty.

 

another thing that comes to mind is the caliber and/or pad is shifting when you apply the brakes while turning. If it's the pad moving around, it could be the caliber rubbing against the rotor. Does it do it when you turn without applying the brakes? If so, that idea is for none. let us know how it turns out.. the more info we have out there, the better we will be in the long run.

 

It does it at low rpms if I'm just driving straight with no pressure to the brakes.

When I reverse on a turn it will on occasion make a knock. It almost sounds like it's coming from the back when I do that

 

alright, i'm back to a bushing being toast and the control arm rubbing.

 

I bet you're right about that. My rotors come in today and I'll take it to have them and the pads changed. I can't take the brake noise anymore lol. If it is the bushing I wonder if there is a better aftermarket alternative. With just 30k on it seems fairly quick.

 

Check the sway bar links as well.

 

I'll see if I can get under there tonight to look at it.

Not yet, I'm going to put it on ramps tonight. I have narrowed it down to the right wheel well. It almost sounds like something is scraping the rotor. Like the back plate is hitting the rotor. I will keep you all posted. The dealer just recently took my wheels off to inspect my pads.

 

It's not hard to bend the shield behind the rotor when you remove and replace the wheel if you're not diligent. Sounds like that might be at the root of this if all they did was remove the wheel to inspect the pads. The sad thing is, there's no need to remove the wheel for a pad inspection, it's easy with the wheel still on the car.

 

Drum roll please... The noise was the part of the tpm sensor that's inside the tire. It broke off and was making that clanking noise. He got it out, installed a new sensor and it's gone.
