Gentlemen, as we all know there is certainly a lag on take off in the F. As a new owner it really bothers me. So, all I have seen on this forum is discussion about the Apexi throttle controller. But there are others I have seen that I presume do the same thing such as the cheesy name of the "Pedal Commander". Is the Apexi the only one you all recommend...I am just curious why other brands are never mentioned on this forum? Has anyone used the "Vitesse" of pedal Commander..or is the Apexi just " the one to get"?

Personally, Pedal Commander is bulky and looks like a FOB with a cord attached whereas the APEXi can mount in a common blank tab most vehicles have so it is a bit more seamless.
The Pedal Commander cable isn't too long, so mounting it somewhere hidden but accessible (like glove box or arm rest) isn't an option unless you build/buy two extension harnesses; that is why I think APEXi is the common choice and is half the price of the Pedal Commander.
I think the gimmick of 8 settings per mode (-4 thru +4) is a lot and not sure if the difference is noticeable.
Good points tuscani...its very odd I can't find 1 review of the Apexi on you tube for the type the F would use...but I know it is well liked on this forum..

I just installed the Apex-I controller about 1 week ago. Honestly, I was skeptical and was not expecting it to make a big difference, but... I was WRONG! It is probably the one of the best decision I've made. Any lag I've felt before is completely gone, and the pedal is now sensitive in a very very good way.
Hope this is useful to you.
Once the box is connected...
1. Press ignition twice but dont turn on the engine.
Just have the car electrics working. The apexi button should be flashing white
2. Press the bottom of the switch and hold it until it turns blue
3. once you release the button it will go from blue to flashing whtie again
4. depress the accelerator pedal all the way and press the top of the button
at the same time until it turns red
5. Once red, release the button and accelerator pedal
6. Fingers crossed there will be no more flashing on the
button meaning youre good to go
FYI for anyone who wants it always on....
Press and hold top of the button whilst pressing push start to acc then ign.
My button flashed white 4 times.
Tested it and it remains in boost purple mode which is what I'm using.
Weird thing is instructions says press bottom of the button and it will flash twice.
For me it flashed 4 times but didn't remain on
so experimented the other way and success.
I believe off of the ppl's input the Purple is the go-to mode for Sport+ in automatic, and red is Sport+ in manual.
Wait until it breaks. Wait for the incessant "APS High Out of Range" and inability to drive the car. It should only take a month or so for the Apexi to fail. You'll probably start off with the Apexi forgetting calibration every few starts.
It absolutely makes a response difference, the issue is in the circuitry of the main controller and Apexi not giving a **** about it.
Thank you Flesh..that was very insightful...sooo...Suburbazin..with your issue...how dd you resolve the issue..did you just unplug the whole thing and problem was solved? Or did you have to bing the car in to the dealership?

Have to be able to clear codes, APS circuit D doesn't resolve itself.
I junked the whole thing and I've never had an issue since.
Well I will certainly take that into consideration...you are the only one I have read so far with an issue...but again, I will definitely ponder your bad experience.
Thank you again!

To be honest with you, that issue Suburbazin described, is what has kept me away from Apexi. Though, I don't doubt it makes the initial response even more sharp, I feel the stock throttle in sport+/manual already can be brutal at times so I have held off so far on it.
Well if you need more persuasion...
I’ve had the Apexi for a while but I hardly ever use it.
The red mode is the only one that really does anything imo but It makes the throttle so touchy, it’s like you have to pay close attention to not launch the car at every red light. You can’t drive it casually.
When you are truly serious about driving, sports+ gets it done without really needing the Apexi. When I’m on track, I never use the Apexi.
I’m about to remove mine and put it up for sale. Anyone interested pm me pls.
I have never understood the need for the Apexi. If one wants quick throttle response switch to Sport + mode, pretty simple. Make sure to red line the car on occasion to keep the car razor sharp. This is well known in the performance arena as the "Italian Tune" (red line a high performance car to keep it sharp). If you drive it too often in Eco and normal mode the car's ECU & TCU will adjust to your driving style and further dial back throttle response and shifts, it becomes a vicious cycle.
One of the reasons why I foresee Toyota/Lexus going back to creating more pedestrian type of cars because they are in a no win situation.
The performance crowd are totally bought-in to BMW M cars and refuse to accept Lexus as very capable of producing great performance cars and therefore will not migrate to Lexus F performance line. They completely hate on the Lexus F line because "how dare they step on our turf". On the other hand the market that Lexus has carved for itself want a performance car but don't understand performance. They whine and gripe when their brakes squeak because they don't appreciate/understand the workings of high performance brakes. Just lurk into the LC500 forum and see the amount of tears being shade over squeaky brakes, the idea of lawsuits against Lexus being thrown around over squeaky brakes, its such a shame. Then on top of that complain about a lag in acceleration but never switch to sport + and flog the car.
Am just saying......

I first had the apexi installed for about a year and i had sooo many issues with it, at one point took it off for a couple months cause i was going crazy with the weird issues i was having. Gave the pedal commander a try and I’ll never look back. The PC has been on the car for about 3 months and the only issue i do find is every once in awhile maybe once every 2-3 weeks i need to turn the PC unit off and back on again cause the car appears to drive sluggish as if the PC is not engaged or turned on. But other than it’s been awesome.
