Default Manual mode and the transmission going to 1st gear

When in manual mode, if the car slows down it automatically downshifts when coming to a stop. I do notice that the car jerks a bit when engaging into first. I wonder how bad this is for the car? Of course when it's in drive, it is smooth. I love the manual mode Can't get enough of it.

Mine does this also. it also has a smaller jerk in 2nd gear. And yes mine only does this when slowing down and when you have not done any shifting. Seems the ECU wants you to be in the best gear for a certain speed.

One time I thought someone rear ended me. I guess it just takes getting used to. So it seems that the transmission shifts gears for you when slowing down drastically, but if you just step on the peddle and you're not in the optimal gear it doesn't shift it for you. It works just like a manual transmission by keeping it in gear.

just got mine, and noticed the same thing. same thing happened on the car i test drove. kind of annoying that it doesn't do it at all in auto mode, but jerks pretty bad in manual mode.

hopefully some sort of ECU update can be made to fix this. it just seems like it doesn't match revs well.

yeah i notice that too...but if you let the car down**** itself to 1st while in manual mode...it isn't as bad as if you use paddle shift down to 1st...then it is quite jerky...heh

I would avoid downshifting into 1st gear!! That would be the worst for the tranny than anything ..The ECU will do it for you, albeit a little prematurely in the case of the ISF...Same thing happens in my car and a little jerk won't hurt at such a slow speed.
