Yes, I get all that "heritage" talk about the IL6 but current M3 owners have by and large gotten used to the V8 and its attendant soundtrack in the current E90/E92 M3 and asking them to switch mindsets again to accept a downgrade of 2 cylinders is a major issue.

All the modifications in the world still can't mask the fact that the basic F30 chassis the M engineers are working from is significantly flawed when compared to and inferior to the new Lexus IS chassis. This is unlike the situation in the past for previous generation M3's which were wonderful because the donor 3-series chassis was already a wonderful world-beating driver's chassis right out of the box.

Right now, assuming the Lexus F-engineers maintain the momentum from the base IS engineering work, it's starting to look like the RC-F may well dethrone the M3/M4 as the de facto attainable performance luxury sedan. ( in terms of handling and driving enjoyment).
I agree with you about the V8 - Sound and the high revs will be hard to replace.
Look at the videos of the M4 on the Nurbring - it looks very planted. I feel the chassis will be much different than the base cars hence the different name. First time BMW has done that.

I think the RC-F has a good chance to be a special car!
Awesome V8, Lexus reliability, and great handling.

that article is so old, its funny to read now . imo the GSF will most likely serve as the 4 door version of the RCF. i cant see them selling both a ISF and GSF. GSF has more everything and anyone who wants a super saloon would probably choose the GSF over the ISF. there's really no point in selling the ISF anymore if the GSF is around.

the SC/LF-LC imo will be based heavily on the RCF. probably different styling and different engines (V8 hybrid? V8TT?) but not extremely different under the skin. if the rumors are true, the RCF itself is way cool enough to be a halo car for lexus. so the SC just needs to be a RCF on steroids in terms of style (LF-LC styling) and power (super hybrid or V8TT as seen on the LS650 project car).

Wait what? No point in the IS-F and GS-F? Well then what's the point of the Audi RS4/RS6, BMW M3/M5, and MB C63/E63?

let me clarify. there's no point, for lexus to offer F cars in both segments. the germans do, but that doesnt mean lexus necessarily will. if you dont care about rear leg room, then the RCF is there. if you want rear leg room then the GSF is there. consider that the E90 M3 sedan's production was cut due to the lack of demand. i firmly believe that if the M3 name wasnt so important, they'd have killed off the M3 for the M4 coupe.

if a ISF is ever to come back, it'll probably be a tuned up version of the V6TT that is rumored for the IS350 mid cycle refresh. the V8 super sedan version of the RCF? that's gonna be the GSF. its no coincidence they were seen together in spyshots...

$60-65K for a base RC-F &
$70K for a CF performance RC-F would be cool

considering the 2014 ISF is 65k, there is no chance in hell the RCF goes for less than that...

anyways, here is a new (supposedly filmed on 8/21) video of the RCF:

What? Are you saying that BMW is going to put a $20k price increase from this year? LMAO

The IS-F starts at $61,750 not $65k. So there is a chance that the RC-F can come in at slightly under $65k.

i just hope that rc-f doesn't end up being simply a 2 door IS with a few extra bits tacked on when we finally see the production version.

that's what some bmw fans are speculating. if the RCF is 71k, there is no doubt in my mind the M4 will be more.

the 2014 ISF price has been announced. $63,350 without destination. now explain how the RCF with more tech can come in under 65k.... a year (or more) from now as well...

71k on the other hand sounds just about right.

on the bright side, this car is sounding beastly. for example, in the VLN series there is a lexus ISC that laps the ring way faster than the ISF CCSR. this ISC looks exactly like the RCF test mule. so there is a good chance you will get your money's worth with the RCF...

As I demonstrated in my previous posts, a fully loaded 435i costs 65K. An M4 as sold in real life will be be easily over 71K.

Members I have removed several posts with rude personal comments. Let's keep it on topic of the vehicles and not the members posting in this thread.

RNM GS3 I would like for you to exit this thread.

We are talking about BASE prices. Yes an M4 will easily go over 71k once you start adding a bunch of packages and options.

I'm sure BMW fans weren't talking about base prices. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised when the base price of the RC-F comes in at under $71k
