OVT or someone else - could you please give me the cliffnotes on the current status of the tune?

It seems almost all the posts are customers asking OVT to help resolve some issues, and lots of response from OVT saying they are busy working on fixes.

I have a 2017. What can I expect if I were to place an order? What will be my wait time to receive my tune and what is the probability that I will have some kind of software issues like others are posting about in this thread?

Im pretty sure the custom tune bricked my ECU. Went into limp mode while I was test driving and I tried to reflash to stock but I got an error mid way. Now the car doesnt turn on and OBD not connecting so I can’t reflash it. It’s also after OV business hours so im havig to have my car towed back home.

**** man, I hope that is not the case that you are able to get it resolved with OV. Please keep us updated.

So I jumped the gun on the ecu being bricked but man that was terrifying. I guess the fail safe OV has really does its job . The car is running again now and I'm back to the stock tune. We had another CL member who had their ecu bricked by a different company and that's the first thing my mind went to when the car wouldn't flash back to the stock tune and the OBD wasn't connecting. I left the car off for 20 mins and stopped trying to flash it while I waited for the tow truck. I decided to try and flash it one more time right as the tow truck was arriving and THANKFULLY the car flashed just fine and started up.

To give you a cliff notes: I was on the standard 1.01G-C flash for 1.5-2 weeks and the car was definitely better to drive and much more fun. The throttle difference between stock and the tune blew my mind a little, but I do have a downpipe as well. I decided to go for the custom tuning for the +100 torque OV says the car can gain so I did some datalogs and sent them to OV. It took 4-5 days to get the custom flash, which I got and flashed today. I flashed the car just fine and went for a test drive but the car went into limp mode within half a mile. It was a disaster to reflash to stock and I was panicking because the OBD stopped connecting to the car, but letting the car rest for 20 mins did the trick.

I personally think the price for the standard flash is worth it because it made the car so much better to drive, but I can't recommend the custom tune. I'm gonna stay stock for now but the car feels really ****ing slow compared to before. I don't know if it's because something got ****ed up or because I got used to the tune for however long I had it but I'm definitely gonna be running some diagnostic tests on the car .

Glad to hear the issue was resolved! I'm sure that was an uncomfortable 20 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback, definitely sounds like the standard tune is worth it.

How much does the downpipe with stock exhaust change the sound of the car? Definitely sounds like the power gains are substantial but I worry about our little 4-bangers sounding ricey with a modified exhaust.

I cant speak for downpipe and stock exhaust because I also have an axleback and no resonators but I hate the way it sounds after the downpipe to be honest. There are very specific rpm ranges where it sounds decent but it is really loud and pretty raspy. The car sounds like theres a permanent exhaust leak from directly under the drivers seat but I've had it checked out at two shops and its just the sound of the car with the downpipe. The power is very noticeable though which is the only reason I've kept it on the car. I'm planning on adding 12" resonators to see if it helps.

I have heard the ARK and APEXi full exhausts which sounded pretty good but never with a downpipe. I wonder if either one of those mid pipes would help out some. Too bad our 4 banger doesn't sound like the ones in the GTI or Golf R. Love the note those things produce and the popping/gurgling.

So initially I just installed a JoeZ axleback and the car was barely any louder than stock. Then I removed the resonators on the stock midpipe and that opened it up a lot. It wasn’t overly loud and it sounded pretty nice and deep so I liked it a lot. I got the downpipe later on for the power and I’ve hated the sound since the first drive after that.

No clue what caused it? I’m thinking of the OV Tune. But worried about stuff like that. Maybe I should keep it simple with my BMS stage 1 and upgrade to JB4

2018 IS300 here, finally got a working tune that doesn't send me into limp mode! I think this one has very minimal adjustments though to figure out what the issue was, so it doesn't feel like much has changed.

We've solved throttle issues and limp modes (from throttle code) on all version files for all version cars, including 2018+.

Note, the ECU CANNOT be bricked. If a flash fails, shut the car off, turn the car back on and flash again.

Thanks for the continued troubleshooting and updates, can't wait to bring out the full potential of this engine!

I’m sure OV knows what caused it but I have no clue myself. I would still go with the standard flash OV offers if I were you to be honest. It completely changed the way the car drives compared to the BMS which will just add boost.

Was your car going into limp mode during test drives or before you were even able to drive it?

As soon as I put it into gear and touched the pedal.
