GTE engine into GS400 questions...
I did a couple of searches, but none of them really answers my questions.
I currently own a 1998 GS400.
it's got pretty high miles on it... and i'm looking to definitely go forced induction on the car.
i'm debating whether to rebuild the engine for forced induction or to just go with a GTE engine.
Here are a couple of questions that I have:
2JZ-GTE engine and auto tranny into my car-
1) will the auto tranny from a supra fit the tranny tunnel of the GS400?
2) how will the electronics work?
a) wire harness
b) what ecu?
3) engine mounts and tranny mounts between the GS400 and for the 2JZ-GTE engine.
4) will the aristo driveshaft work without modifications? or is it cheaper and/or easier to just modify my gs400 driveshaft?
5) with relation to the steering wheel controls for manual mode, how will that work with a supra auto tranny? will the swap eliminate this because of the change of ecus?
my biggest concern is the electronics with the swap.
i'll be doing my own intercooler piping, etc....
anyone have any thoughts to this?

here are some additional questions.
1) since the aristo v300 comes with the 2JZ engine... basically, a direct swap should be possible. do the v300s in japan come with a 6 speed option?
2) the differences in the chassis layout (mainly subframe) between the US and JDM versions of the GS model (aristo). anyone know if there are any significant changes? besides of course the right hand drive?
3) aren't there any left hand drive aristos in other countries?
anywhere in europe?
4) the ecu connection between the GS400 and GS300s...
are they the same? same connectors?
how about connectors to a 2JZ-GTE ecu? manual or auto.

Don't think you are going to get much answers. If someone here had all of them down packed, they would probably make a ton of $ on such a conversion/kit. This is not to say anything about you, just in general. The most knowledgeable person in regards to the Lexus GS line would have to be Mo from SRT (especially in regards to the electronics). However, I doubt he would reveal his company's trade secrets. I would like to think I will know most of these answers when I get my car back and I can tell you that I have already been offered a substantial amount of $ to turn my head and let someone "look" over the design.
I refused the deal, but it was tempting to offset my TT setup costs. Lol. It seems like the hardest thing to swallow for people is all the cost associated with a GS conversion, so they are looking to a more direct approach. Throw in there a proven bulletproof engine and a 6 speed and forget it. Not too bad of an idea, but who will be the first to drop 40K+ in R&D on a car that already costs 30K+ and what assurance do they have? How do they know they will overcome the electronic nightmare. I think this burden is too much to bare alone unless you have tons of $ and time. This is not to say it can't be done. The thing you should do is ask yourself.....how hungry are you for HP? If you are looking for more than 400RWHP in a GS, then you will definitely pay for it. Not to mention you can just get a used Supra, throw on a BPU++ package and be set. Most of us who are hungry for HP and stick with the GS, do so since they want BOTH. Luxury and power. We, however, pay a premium price for it. It doesn't matter if you do a swap, 6speed speed cpnversion, or solve the electronic puzzles, you will still have to pay a premium $ which I don't think will be far off the price SRT charges right now. If anyone thinks that once you drop in a Supra block, you will have the same RWHP #'s as Supras, you are mistaking. GS's sub components such as the differential, drice shaft, and other parts have not been tested and there is no guarantee they will hold. After, you are done doing the inline 6 swap, 6 speed conversion, and etc......all you are going to have is a Supra in a shell of a Lexus with no guarantees. I am not discouraging you from doing anything. Heck, I would love to see you complete it. All I am offering is my take on this......Later.

3) In Europe we get the same GS300 you get in the US.
Hope this helps.
1) will the auto tranny from a supra fit the tranny tunnel of the GS400?
Yes, it will fit the GS400, the Supra TT and the Aristo TT share the same 4-spd auto transmission, and the same gears as well. Both also use the same rearend gear... 3.769
2) how will the electronics work?
a) wire harness
b) what ecu?
The GTE ecu and harness would need to be used. The trans is directly wired in with the engine harness as a whole. Therefore engine, trans and ecu will easily connect with one another. The harness connectors which runs into the ecu box from the interior/dash may need to be changed.
3) engine mounts and tranny mounts between the GS400 and for the 2JZ-GTE engine.
Though the engine mounts may be slightly different, they do bolt in at the same location. The trans cross-bar mount was designed to be mounted 2 different ways, depending upon which tranny is used.
*The important thing to know is that the 2JZ-GTE from the Supra has the oil pan towards the back. This will not fit, due to the lower front subframe section. The oil pan will need to be changed or modified. The 2JZ-GTE oil pan on the Aristo is toward the front and is the correct one to use.
4) will the aristo driveshaft work without modifications? or is it cheaper and/or easier to just modify my gs400 driveshaft?
The leading adapter mount (where it connects to the trans) on the GS400 driveshaft, is different to the Supra/Aristo leading driveshaft adapter. The Supra /Aristo driveshaft would be the better choice… although a relatively common procedure, driveshafts can easily be modified by any driveline shop.
5) with relation to the steering wheel controls for manual mode, how will that work with a supra auto tranny? will the swap eliminate this because of the change of ecus?
No, not necessarily. the E-shift can be functional… the 1998 Japan Supra did come with the E-shift as well as the Aristo did, the USA Supra trans did not. Although they are the same transmission, I’m guessing the USA trans will just need the proper items and wires added for it to work

heheh, Mariusz i see that you just copy and paste that response,

same one used before in another post
try to contact POWER HOUSE RACING, they've done such conversion for a IS300, with a 2jZ-GTE SWAP, but its around 20g's
start.
I would just buy a gs300 and bust a turbo on that,
THats my setup, i also own a 2000 gs400, but low km's
I'm selling it and buying a 01 gs300 (gots to have tip-tronic) and bust a stage 4 turbo.
Mariusz must be kicking himself for spending 30g's on a 400.
More info, a gs300 weighs 300-400lb's lighter than the 400.
1st advantage, with stage 4, u get around 450RWH, 12 grand installed at SRT. Thats around what u got now hey Mariusz??
EVen stage 5, with over 500RWH for 20g's is still faster than a Gs400 TT, and lighter
no offence or anything, but i would never spend that much on TTing my 400, But hey if u got the budget, GOOD 4 U man,
With 30g's to blow i would 4sure bust a 6spd conversion on a 98gs300, best and cheapest route, and yes, It is possible, but 30grand possible.
Hmmm let me think, 6spd v300 TT plus all the goodies (rims, suspension, Tv's, 6piston brakes, U get the picture) 4 less than the price of an M5, sounds good 2 me.

Curb weight: 3,715 lb (GS 430)/3,649 lb (GS 300)
Since the models have remained essentially the same throughout the years, were did you come up with 300-400 pounds?

Mariusz must be kicking himself for spending 30g's on a 400.
hmmm, my bad,
that was just my guess on that, but i'm pretty sure i saw something with gs300 3400lb's and the gs400 3850lbs,
if not, my bad, but either way, the 300 is lighter, and u would agree. Plus the costs for getting it to go faster are way cheaper than the 400, so i don't see the resean in a 400 no more, unless u want to throw the reliability issue in my face with the 400 being NA and all rather than turbo 300.
remember i have a 400 myself, so i know this.
strange, i could have swear that i saw the 3400lbs mark for a 300, i don't remember, i think the 03's are heavier or something, i'm not sure, i can't remember, i had a gs300 back in 99 so i remember it from that brochure. AGAIN, i'm not sure on that.

hehehe, how much did u spend??
I'm pretty sure MO gave u a good deal or something, because you and the other guy are the first 2 to have a TTgs400.
maybe even a sponsership?? huh?
hey Mariusz, was that the reason?? to be among the first???
It does feel good

Just my 0.02. It's late and I'm heading to bed. Going to a dyno tomorrow to see what I will have to go against once I get my car back.
hehe, didn't someone in this forum do it??
v300? i can't remember his name, he actually did it, i saw his pics, its a black gs left hand drive, engine poped open and u see that sweet blue toyota engine.
I wouldn't argue the 30g's mark, but i would definetly go that route if possible for that price,
so come on man, how much did u spend??
