Transmission Downshifting Issue?

I've just recently bought an '08 350 - once I'm cruising at 40mph in 6th gear...is it normal for transmission to stay in 6th gear when I take my foot off the gas pedal and let the car slow down to 10mph? Seems like it only downshifts when I put my foot on the brake.

It seems tho no one knows these issues.
