Default Exhaust Crackling Noise after Driving?

Hi so i have a 98 gs4 with about 118k on it,had it for almost a year but since i got it it i noticed that everytime i parked even when i drove a couple of miles the exhaust just crackles like crazy. It seems to be coming from the front end under the driver/pass side. This is just annoying and was wondering how many other gs do this and if it could be fixed, i know the cars old but damm my 95 trans am didnt even do this..

Cars normally have a few cracks and pops after driving, but yours sounds beyond that. Might be a bad catalytic converter. Have you received a check engine light?

Its normal for some cracking. Like thomas said, it can be a bad CAT. Or exhaust heatshield. If its xat, code 420 will pop up if your CEL comes on eventually. Im thinking its the heatshield. Exhaust shop can check it out for you.

it's normal. it's your catalytic converters. if they were bad you would've failed emissions or have a cel. they are still hot when you shut the car off so still operating.

Do you leave the climate control on defroster mode all the time? Your charcoal canister for the evap system makes that same noise. Any issues with the climate system?

Its just the cats cooling down. When a cat gets hot, it expands, when it cools down it retracts which causes the crackling noise.

A video would probably help us understand your experience more. We probably think its not as bad as it really could be or it could really be normal.

Try to get a video.
