Default Short ram intake VS. k&n filter replacment

I'm debating about putting a intake system on my 2001 gs430.
Is it worth it performance wise? It looks like all of the systems
will be sucking up a lot of really hot air from the engine compartment.
while if you stay with the stock intake which pulls colder air from the front of the car and go with a good high flow filter, it would be as good or better
for performance.. Any thoughts or testimonys would be a big help.

most folks with the 430 will go for the SRT intake w/ chip. if you are looking to mod your car in the future get any random intake and a apexi neo for tuning.

I agree I got the k&n cold air intake system and a apexi neo. After i got the apexi neo dyno tune. I was very satisfied with the performance.

I like the sound of mine when I hit it. The filter is supposed to add around 8 HP which is less than a 3% increase so not much more go than stock.

I agree with swat....the unattractive engine noise outweighed any minimal gains I got with a K&N, and when the weather was hot it would throw codes. K&N said it was due to loose connections but I had everything tight as I could get it. So I took it off, no more codes, and back to good engine sounds.

Thanks for the info guys. I went to the srt web site their system looks like
one of the best I've seen so far. I like the heat shield, Its a little pricey though.
I guess if you want performance you have to pay for it! It looks like a lot of people
are having trouble installing the ecu module. Any of you guy have a problem?

It does look relatively easy to fab. The ecu mod would be nice though.
What are people doing with the worthless tape deck in the 2001 gs's.
I would love to get rid of it but I dont want to mess with my touch
screen or factory controls.

I agree going the SRT route is the best way, however I was never able to find any sound clips of the 430 or 300, im not sure if the noise created is irritating and loud? on either or both 300 or 430 engines

have driven with SRT on my 430 for 2 days! both good and really bad feelings..

Sounds like a dream along with my exhaust..

BAD: Last night going full throttle on 3rd, Car started acting wird! gaspedal was hard and didnt want to give gas! Had to realy forece the pedal for the car to move.. 2-300 meters after all lights started to flash! enginelight and everything and smelled aaaloot of gas fumes.. The car totaly died in the middle of a huge tunnel. Had it rest for 10-15 minutes and tryed to start! Nothing, waited more, nothing. Then after 40min i tried again! car starts with bad idle and then up to normal idle and everything looks and seems fine again.. do not still know what the heck happened! But today it has been fine but i do feel that its more resistance in the gaspedal today and the response is abit better i think!! Any clues??

Any CEL? Try disconnecting the MAF sensor and see if it runs better. Also, did you SRT come with a chip?
