Default Intake Manifold Question!

Anyone know if the 250 and 350 lower intake plenum/manifold is interchangeable?

I'm not talking about the plastic upper manifold. I'm talking about the short section of aluminum plenum right before the head. I found a good deal on one of these and I think I'd like to port/polish it up to see what gains I can get.

Any downsides yall can think of?

I figure if I'm goin for 300whp NA, I'll need all the help I can get.

Are you taking about this part here? :

I'd be VERY curious to see if there are any gains to be had by porting that portion of the IM. I'm guessing you are sticking with the OE ignition/engine mgmt? Are you gonna port match the plastic portion of the IM to this aluminum portion?

The only downside might be a slight take away of low/mid-range power, but a tad more top end.

BTW, I just checked the Sewell OE parts site...and the P/N 17111 is the same for both the 250 & 350.

Please oh please do a before and after dyno if you go through with this, or back to back quarter miles work just as well. Would love to see if there are any gains to be had. You still working on the intake cooling as well?

the intake cooling has been shelved, but I am continuing forward with bringing a hood sealed version of the intake I created to market. I think I've found the holy grail of intake design for the 2IS. It lets out ALL the sound and keeps out ALL the heat. It's really a thing of beauty.

On that note, I figured being the first 300 NA whp would help with marketing. Who knows though, I'm just throwin around ideas right now. I'll be getting some PPE headers and a MAPECU3 for a crack at NA tuning sometime in the next few weeks.

As far as the intake manifolds go, I didnt count on messing with the plastic upper. I just dont think anything could really be done with it. I think I was really just planing on polishing the throttle body and the lower portion. I said port/polish, but I'm not sure what would actually be beneficial as far as just porting the lower.

Opinions?
